‘This week marked the first Digi-Cluster of the year, as well as the first of the decade.’

Like many other technology businesses, we’re anticipating big things for the next 10 years and we were really happy to kick things off in the most productive way possible with our favourite digital meetup, co-hosted by Clock.

The evening began with drinks and networking, allowing creatives and tech enthusiasts alike to make introductions to new faces and catch up with the team. Our CTO Ollie Bolland introduced the event and then we had some more introductions from our brand new sponsors, VWV, an award-winning, full-service law firm and leading sector specialists.

One of the key moments of our Digi-Cluster meetups is the 90-second pitches, a chance for experts to showcase their successes and demonstrate how businesses can succeed with the implementation of digital technology.

This time around, our 90-second pitchers were:
Jeremy Freeman – SmartGiving
Louise Towler – Indigotree

Following some incredible insights, Syd Nadim, founder of Clock, introduced and interviewed our guest speaker for the evening, Lucy Mann. Lucy is the founder of Gunpowder, a specialist consultancy providing new business planning and mentoring for marketing services agencies. The interview was really interesting and the discussion was focused around Lucy’s new podcast, Small Spark Theory, which explores the small changes we can make to our sales and marketing process to achieve better new business results.

The podcast has already had some amazing guests who have provided unique expertise, including Catherine Allison, Phil Gripton, Hilary Gallo, Roland Gurney, Peter Czapp, and David Meikle — just to name a few!

Lucy recommended a book which Digi-Cluster provided, and business cards were drawn out of a hat to select a winner. John Onion from upriseUP Limited was the lucky name and he took home Black Box Thinking by Matthew Syed, an excellent read about seeking success. This was a great activity and gave an exciting new element to the networking process.

The Small Spark Theory podcast includes plenty more interesting book recommendations to check out, including Scaling Up by Verne Harnish, Give and Take by Adam Grant and Pricing Creativity by Blair Enns.

Small Spark Theory is more than just a podcast too — they also offer courses for business owners. Currently on offer is a new business marketing boot camp for founders looking to get started before establishing a marketing or sales department, as well as a mentoring course for new business managers.

The event ended with some more networking over a few more drinks and some pizza which was enjoyed by all! The insights were unparalleled and we can’t wait for the next one.

Check out the Digi-Cluster site to find out when our next event will be taking place and keep an eye on our socials for updates on new speakers and pitching opportunities!

Thanks to all our speakers, sponsors and guests for making the first Digi-Cluster of the decade so brilliant. See you soon! (Thanks also to Rod Wynne Powell for the great images on this blog post, taken at the event)
